“THE ONE” TYRONE BRUNSON
Beats 18 FIGHT FIRST ROUND KO RECORD

Who is he? What is he?  Where is he?  Why you need to know!

On Friday night, 8th June, 2007, at the Sky City Casino, in Auckland, New Zealand, the land of the long white cloud witnessed the equalling of one of boxing’s more unusual records, 18 Consecutive First Round Kayos in 18 contests.

So, Tyrone Brunson, a 22 year old light middleweight from Philadelphia, didn’t  show any brotherly love to Kiwi, Jamie Waru, a 35 year old, 40 fight veteran who has a 50/50 record when he, Brunson, equalled the 18 fight, consecutive, first round KO record held by 25 year old, Venezuelan, super featherweight, Edwin Valero.

Tyrone Brunson is the best kept secret in boxing, he is that rarity amongst athletes, a one punch KO artiste. Named, “The One” , as the kiss of  Tyrone Brunson’s gloves, from either hand, to head, or body, spells over & out for his unfortunate opponents.

18 have come and 18 have gone and still “The One” has yet to hear the bell for the end of the first round.

18 first round kayos, it doesn’t get any better than that but it could as the record for consecutive first round kayos stands @ 18 and is now jointly held by Edwin Valero, but “The One” has decided that he wants to be the one, the one and only with the record.

Our 22 yr old hero is a quietly spoken, very polite, light middleweight, a native and product of famous fight city, Philadelphia, where his penchant for inducing his opponents’ comatose departure from the squared circle has made finding opponents locally, difficult to impossible.

Jimmy Walker long time mentor and trainer of Brunson

“We got on from day one. Ambition and an assassin’s glint in Tyrone’s eyes shine at you.   I knew of his ferocious punching power, the word had been out on the street and in the gyms for awhile.Tyrone needed a work ethic to match his talent and unnatural power.
I matched him as you would a young pro prospect, but “The One” did just that, cut ‘em off and cut ‘em down, even the survivors, the runners and holders, all hit the floor inside 3 minutes.
Tyrone decided he wanted to take a shot @ the 18 fight record, which meant we have had to travel, as guys on the East Coast of America, either wouldn’t fight him, or wanted too much to fight him. So here we are in Auckland, New Zealand with 1st round win number 18 and I guess we will stay here until Tyrone either breaks the record, or fails to break the record. Either way I can tell you that you are going to hear a lot about this young man, people talk about waking boxing up, believe me Tyrone’s going to wake the light middles up by putting plenty of them to sleep”

“I know records aren’t everything and fight people won’t take me seriously until I’m storming world rankings, but 18 first round kayos takes some doing, especially when fighters turn up just to keep out of my way for 3 minutes.

Waru’s a solid pro and reckoned he could go 3 minutes with anyone his weight, on Friday he fell in the 1st just like the other 17. Whatever happens I’m on my way back to Philly to put down my marker and let everyone know that I’m a light middle who’s determined to put some dynamite amongst  the named contenders. Ask anyone in the Philly fight gyms whether I’m for real or not!”
